How To Create A Capsule Wardrobe
With Spring just a month away, we decided to get in the spirit of Spring cleaning. One of the best ways to Spring clean your home is to declutter your closet. And one of the best ways of doing that, is by creating a wardrobe capsule. If you’re not familiar with what a wardrobe capsule is, it is essentially a selection of timeless pieces that define your style or a style that you find yourself wearing consistently. With this in mind, we decided to create a few steps to execute the most effective wardrobe capsule yet!
Let’s begin by discovering your style. It’s important to track what your outfits consist of 98% of the time. This will make it easier to determine what to get rid of and where to add as needed. You can always add pieces for special occasions that you know might come in handy soon or that you know for certain you’re going to need.
The next step is to create a pile of 4.
One: Definitely. Something you’re going to wear soon.
Two: Maybe. This pile is dedicated to the pieces that hold sentimental value but you have not worn in a while.
Three: Absolutely not. You know you’re not going to wear it. Matter of fact, you haven’t worn it in the last year. Yeah, it’s gotta go. On the Brightside, donation means that someone else can learn to love it more than you.
Four: Seasonal. If it’s not even in season, please put it away. Store it somewhere safely until the proper season for it rolls around which you can add to that season’s wardrobe capsule.
Once you have figured out all the logistics, find the holes. What are some timeless styles that you’ve been dying to add to your wardrobe? Please keep in mind the word Timeless. This means pieces that will not go out of style. Are you missing one or two pairs of good jeans? White tees? Be aware of what your style capsule is calling for and plan to add that to the collection. With that said, let’s learn that discipline is our best friend in this situation. Limiting the amount of pieces we expect to buy can keep our capsule short and sweet.
